The Norwegian Microsoft 365 Community is moving!

As Microsoft transitions Community Teams tenants to the Microsoft Tech Community portal, we’re evolving into the Norwegian Microsoft Tech Community (NMTC). We are still a neutral, independent, and volunteer-driven space for sharing, learning, and connecting across roles and technologies. This blog shares our journey, the people behind our local user groups, and how we’re continuing to grow stronger and sharing, together.

🌍Going far, together

There is a proverb inspired by African values that says:

“If you want to go fast, go alone.

If you want to go far, go together.”

This rings true for our tech community. I have learnt and explored so much, both within our Norwegian and the international tech communities. I have found lifelong friends along the way. Time and again, it is clear; amazing things happen when we put our minds, voices and hearts together.

💡🦸Community Teams: A home for sharing

At the start of the pandemic, Microsoft provided Teams tenants to various tech communities. For us in the Norwegian Microsoft 365 Community, this was a game-changer. We finally had a digital home to share knowledge, support each other, and build each other good, during meetups and in between.

Before the pandemic, our meetups were mostly in Oslo, often at Teknologihuset (now Rebel), and once in Stavanger (at Sopra Steria). One of our dreams was to include everyone working with Microsoft technology in Norway, regardless of location. The Microsoft Community Teams made that possible.

Over the past 4–5 years, community members across Norway have stepped up to lead local groups. As in-person events returned, these groups began organizing local meetups. The sharing and collaboration growing like beautiful ripples in the knowledge-water.

Together, we’ve built, and continue to build, a strong culture of sharing. Outside the community, we’re consultants, customers, partners, students. Inside, we’re simply community members; helping each other, sharing experiences, and building each good.

This has fostered good practices and a collaborative spirit that’s truly special.

Microsoft is transitioning these to the Microsoft Tech Community portal. You’ll find the user groups under the Community → User Groups tab. This is a nice move, as there have been a wish from the wider Microsoft Tech Community to get an overview of all the different Microsoft Technology User Groups at different locations. This solution is in addition to the Community Days | Homepage, which shows many full-day events and conferences, both Microsoft lead and community led.

Our NMTC now has a space there too. We’re still exploring how to use it—perhaps as a public-facing page with events, blogs, and discussions. It’s a work in progress!

We appreciate the new portal, at the same time we believe real collaboration and culture building happens in Microsoft Teams. Several community-leads in Norway came together to brainstorm and new ideas emerged! It is time to regroup and restructure.
