Where does your Viva Engage Data live?
A lot of companies are currently in the process of transitioning from Workplace to Viva Engage. Some might just move right in, some might migrate data or users, some might run pilots in their Viva Engage tenant.
Some companies might have had Yammer previously, before it changed the name to Viva Engage. Perhaps they used it first, and then moved to Workplace later. As the company are using the rest of the Microsoft 365 platform, the “old” Yammer/Viva Engage is still there, even when it is turned off.
For older versions of Yammer/Viva Engage the data residency might be in the US, even if the data residency for the rest of Microsoft 365 is in e.g. Europe or other data residency location.
When starting Viva Engage now, I would recommend you to check where your Viva Engage Data residency is, and start the process of moving it to the location where you want it to be.
When moving the data residency everything you now have on Viva Engage will be gone, and you would need to rebuild it in your new Viva Engage.

To move the data residency you need to contact your Microsoft account team representative to help you start the process to reprovision the Viva Engage geo location. It is a pretty straight forward process, still, you need some documents signed and it can take 2 weeks after the signing of papers before Microsoft can do something, plus the process can take up to 4 weeks.
